Shocktober 29, 2004
Big Week. This is going to be an eventful week. I start my shiny new job on Monday, and I'm actually looking forward to it. Tim should hear back early in the week about when he can (assuming the background screening went okay) start his. But more importantly, Tuesday is Election Day.
I've voted in every election since I was eligible to vote. It was always my understanding that this is what one does when they live in a democracy. I also understood that unless I vote, I have no right to bitch about The Way Things Are, and I really like to do that. I'm hoping that the last election fiasco has not turned people off to voting because they don't think it counts, but has instead given them more determination to make sure their vote is counted.
There is a big push to make people vote this year, and that's a good thing, of course. But what I want to say is that if you're going to vote for Bush, you can go ahead and stay home sitting on your hands. My political ideas are no secret here, and I suspect if you're reading this, you probably have the similar feelings, so I'm not going to preach at the moment. However, I will say that if you intend to vote Democratic, I will be super pissed off at you if you forget to vote on Tuesday. Sure, Kerry isn't someone I voted for in the Primaries, and I don't really like him much anyway, but jesus people, look at the alternative. Plus, Illinois residents have the added pleasure of voting in a new US Senator who will, by my math, be the first Black President, so that's fun. You can say you voted for him when. My only fear is that a whole bunch of Gen-Xers like myself will think it's really funny to vote for Keyes since he's such a psycho, knowing that our Obama is like 70 points ahead, so what's the difference.
What I will say is that I know more people right now who are out of work than I ever have before. Things are worse for most people I encounter than they were four years ago. Don't just go out and vote. Go out and vote this imbecile out of office. Please.asv (you know, here)- at girlmoxie dot com
